News, news, news. I actually have a purpose to this post this time but not much time to write it in. I will try to update a little after I get out the main point to this post.
A bunch of Jardine cribs sold in Toys R Us and Babies R Us have been recalled due to slats breaking and trapping children. The recall website, http://www.jardinecribrecall.com/ lists the model numbers of the cribs and unfortunately ours happens to be one of them.
I love our crib. It is gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! It's cherry wood, the short panels are solid, it has a sleigh type shape and it's GORGEOUS!!! I LOVE MY CRIB. :(
Jardine has said to stop using the crib immediately. Well, when you have just started to crib train your child, this is a problem. We will continue to use it until our voucher package arrives. When that comes, we have to pack up the hardware (bolts and screws) to ensure that we can no longer use the crib and within 2 weeks we should see our voucher for a new crib. We will be without a crib during that time and during the time it takes us to find out if we can get a crib online and find the extra money for shipping or find a way to get a crib down here from the Babies R Us in Spokane. Yeah, that's going to be interesting. We have a pack and play to use in the meantime, but I can't reach the bottom of it (yay for being short) so I don't know how I'm supposed to lay Lily down in it.
Lord I'm irritated. The only two cribs we can find online that are close to what we have and what I want are either $100 cheaper (and we don't get the difference back) or $100 more expensive. I don't have an extra $100 and we spent $250 on a crib - I don't want a $150 crib.
Anyway, that's that. I'm saddened.
Work is going okay. Lots of drama.
Lily has cut a top tooth and should cut the other top tooth soon. She's in pain and not sleeping well. Last night she was awake from 2-5am, asleep until 5:20am and then awake again. Needless to say, I'm exhausted!!!
Along with her teeth comes fun noises. We can now say "th" and "click click click." The clicking is her clicking her top tooth and bottom teeth across each other. Ugh - that is a horrible sound!!! ;)
I think that's about it for now. It's our anniversary today and it's been ... meh. Mike got me some gorgeous flowers but we were really too broke to do much aside from go out to dinner. No movie and no other gifts. Oh well - hopefully we'll always have the future! :D
Okay, it's been about 14 days. I know A LOT has happened in the last 14 days, but the chances of me remembering it all is slim. Lily is jumping around right now so I have a few minutes.
So, what has happened since June 1st? Hmmmm. Our dear friends Kelly and Josh left (last day in May). We miss them. That's all I'll say on that otherwise I'll be too teary eyed to keep typing.
Home life has been okay. Frankly, we haven't been used to being home every evening. I'm getting slightly sick of this apartment but without having anyone to go visit (*cough cough guilt trip*) we're kind of stuck. Lily's been doing great eating - she even tried some cottage cheese the other day. She hated it. ;D She loves her jarred food and her cereal as well as her puffs. These puffs come in various fruit and veggie flavors and are made from rice. They melt fairly well although she does munch them with her gums and her front two teeth. She loves to feed herself, but she isn't very good at it yet. She'll get a puff to her mouth and try to shove it in but more often than not it will just get stuck in her palm. It's fun to watch.
What else? We went to visit Grandma and Grandpa from Papa's side this last weekend. Lily had fun playing with the various toys that they found for her. She also LOVED it when Grandpa made funny noises. While there, on Saturday morning, Lily just put her hands together and started clapping! She hadn't done it for us before and her daycare says she hadn't done it there either. I'd been trying to get her to clap, but she always pulled her hands away from me. Must have wanted to do it on her own.
She had her pediatrician's appointment this past Wednesday. Holy cow she's a big girl. She's 30 inches long, 23 pounds and her head is 47.5 centimeters around. She's in the 100th percentile for all three and the doctor said she is basically the size of an 18 month old. I think she's going to be big like her Papa. While there she didn't have to get any shots, but she did have to get her finger pricked to check her iron levels. She did great with that and we got to find out that her iron levels are great. No anemic baby for us!
In other, less happy news with her - we've been trying to get her to sleep in her crib more. Unfortunately that has meant a fair amount of crying for us and her. We don't let her sit there and cry it out in her crib; instead, we have been sitting there and patting her back, occasionally putting her pacifier back in her mouth. She has been crying for about an hour before going back to sleep which upsets me, but I try to remember that we are there with her so she can't think that we've totally abandoned her. I don't know if we're going about this the right way however. She seems to be sleeping shorter amounts of time now before waking up and just screaming her head off (maybe an hour or so). She's apparently also crying now when she gets laid down at daycare. Ergh. Seems like we can't do anything right in that apartment. I would let her continue to cosleep, but anymore she's too hot, too squirmy and wants to nurse ALL NIGHT LONG. Which means that I'm uncomfortable and unable to sleep most of the night.
In work news, things have been going okay. There are growing pains with the old director leaving, but I have total confidence in the new director and think he will do just fine. I've been doing a lot more inspections on my own now. I thought that the more I did the more comfortable I would feel when I go in, but that hasn't happened yet. Every time I finish up an inspection and leave, I remember something that I missed. The next place I go to, I make a point to remember whatever it was and then I miss something else. There's just no saving me from myself. Oh well.
One awesome thing that happened this week actually is my ServSafe certification. My boss wanted me to take this ServSafe class online through the National Restaurant Association. It was expensive and very very detailed. It's designed for food service managers so it was interesting to see how things are discussed from that side of the clipboard. The point of taking the course and the exam was that if I scored high enough on the exam (75/80) then I could become a ServSafe proctor. Apparently my boss has been trying to get two ServSafe proctors for a while (he is one) so that we can start offering the class in the county instead of referring people to Spokane. I finished the course two weeks ago and took the test this past Wednesday. I got *drum roll please* 77/80. Woot! It was really tough and I was under a lot of pressure so I'm glad that I did so well. The certification will last for 5 years which is also awesome.
What else has happened in work? I got some angry phone calls and had the comissioners called on me, but that's all a part of the job (the solid waste part). Apparently people don't appreciate the suggestion being made that they have a solid waste problem on their property. Fair enough.
Okay, I think that's about it for now. Oh! I did forget something. We finally found a place to live! Tomorrow we are signing the lease on a lovely two story, 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath duplex with a decent sized living room, dining room, kitchen and washer/dryer hookups. There is also a sliding door to the backyard with grass we don't have to mow and a cute concrete patio. I was originally going to detail everything we're NOT going to do on Father's Day today because we have to put down around $1500 for the duplex tomorrow. Needless to say (again), we unfortunately won't be doing anything for Father's Day. *sigh* Double the income and still no money!
Also, we found out that we can't get a car anytime soon which is really depressing. My car has decided to stop shifting into reverse so we need something ASAP but because of our credit and our student loans, nobody will give us a loan. We have to consolidate our loans first which will take quite a while (or we can wait until this fall when I start my Master's and my loans go back into deferment).
Okay, I really think that might be it for now. I shall attempt to add some pictures and a video now. Let's see if Lily will let me!
Where has the time gone? Looks like my last post was on May 11 - Mother's Day. I love looking at the digital picture frame that Lily and Dadda got for me. It's a lot of fun.
Work wise, things have been going okay. I went to my New Inspector Training and learned A LOT!!! Holy Cow Batman!! I did get confused at times because it was a lot of information and only 2.5 days, but I think I managed to retain most of it.
Since Lily still hasn't slept without me yet, she brought her Dadda up to stay with me in the hotel for Tuesday and Wednesday nights. They left Thursday morning. It was nice to share my lovely hotel room. I even took Mike out for a special dinner Wednesday night at P.F. Chengs. He'd been wanting to go forever and there just happened to be one 5 minutes from the hotel.
Let's see, what else, what else. Hmmm, more interesting work news I suppose. Within the last two weeks I got to do an inspection all by myself, did some more solid waste surveys, got an angry phone call from one of my solid waste folks that consisted of being told to stay out of the neighboring towns and got to attend an awesome conference. The conference that I went to was actually yesterday and today. One of the reasons that it was approved is that it was over in a local town, so no hotel costs. It was a Farm to Table conference put on by the universities around here. There were presentations from producers, regulatory agents and everyone in between. Man, it was totally awesome! I learned som much and got to meet so many interesting people! I even got a few compliments for a comment I made during the panel discussion. :D
Last bit of work news is that tomorrow is our director's last day. He's hilarious and extremely helpful. It will be sad to see him go.
In non work news we have Lily. Over the last 2 weeks, Lily has gained two new skills. The first is the ability to cry and make her parents feel like poop when we drop her off at daycare. The other is the ability to army crawl. She has been able to scoot backwards and roll around to get wherever she wants to go for a while, but just recently she realized that she can push off with her toes and get even more mobility.
Man are we exhausted! This child is definitely one that we get to chase after. She always has to be going going going!
The last bit of news is that this past weekend we got to visit Lily's maternal Grandma at the park she is staying at. We got to visit the gorgeous park and got to see a Drive In! That was awesome! As always, it was hard to leave my mom, but it had to be done. We have every intention of going back later this summer.
For a bit more on work - I am apparently, no longer fun to eat out with. I spend my time commenting that the ham is cold (Mother's Day Brunch) so it cannot possibly have been properly Hot Held to avoid the growth of bacteria. I also comment on ungloved hands and how high the ice comes up on salad and fruit bars. In addition, don't eat those dips in front of me - you know, the ones that have little pretzels with them. It's sitting out in a store, it isn't kept chilled and you have no idea how much double dipping or fingers are ending up in there. I just can't watch you kill yourself.
Before I continue on to the rest of Mother's Day, let me just say one little thing. VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN! I am sitting here scared for myself and my friend's twin boys because the measles outbreak in the US has spread to my state. In 2 weeks we popped up to 12 confirmed cases only hours from us. Last week there was one confirmed case an hour from us. It was suggested to me that it might not be entirely brilliant to travel with my baby right now because she can't get the measles shot until she is one year old. Unfortunately for my friend, she and her new boys didn't have much of a choice as they are going to a big family gathering for her mom today. Our children cannot physically get vaccinated at this point but you bet your buns that when they are old enough they will be. I shouldn't have to be worried about my bug catching the highly contagious airborne measles because YOUR ARE TOO MUCH OF AN ASS TO VACCINATE YOUR OWN CHILDREN! There, I've said it, I feel better. If people would vaccinate their children we wouldn't have a measles outbreak, now would we? No, and I wouldn't have to worry about taking my child out in public. It just so ticks me off. Your child is not going to turn autistic from vaccines. Guess what, if your autistic child gets a vaccine and then later you notice his/her autism more, it's because he/she was already autistic! Get over yourself! We got rid of all this crap and now because of people's stupidity it's all coming back.
I'm undecided on delayed vaccines, but I think that if you want to delay them but still make sure your kid gets them...fine. Except for the measles! Get the dang measles shot!!!
Speaking of shots, last Thursday I got my Hep A, Hep B and Tetanus shot at work. My arm, from the Tetanus shot, is still totally killing me. :(
In other news, by all means go organic. That does not, under any circumstances mean that you should drink unpasteurized milk from any animal. Raw milk has a huge chance of containing listeria - you know, that wonderful bug that causes sponataneous abortion among other things. If you must go organic, buy non hormone added milk from your local coop, but for the love of all that is good, make sure it is pasteurized!
Okay, Mother's Day. It was good. :) We went to a nice brunch where we laughed our selves silly watching Lily munch some watermelon and ice in her mesh food feeder. After brunch we walked around the mall for a bit before driving around Pullman, looking for a new place for us to live. We then came home where we failed at getting our bug to sleep. Mike and Lily got me a Kodak digital picture frame for my desk at work. It is muy pretty. :D
Okay, I'm done for now I think. Have a peachy keen day!!!
Oops...it's been a while. Let's see. I don't have many pictures uploaded right now so I'm not going to include any cute ones of Lily, but I will make a separate post, probably later today and do that (unless I happen to find one on my hard drive - and I can already think of a good one).
Anyway, the quick and short of it. Work is awesome. I got a new desk - it's huge. I have business cards and feel all grown up now. I've been training on doing school health inspections and will do a restaurant or two (with my boss) on Monday. Tuesday through Thursday I have training 2.5 hours away where they will teach us more about doing food inspections. Ahhh, I love the county. They put me up in a large room with a king sized bed in the Marriot. Sweet!
What else. I'm doing food worker classes on my own now. It's nice to feel that trust in the office. I also made an educational brochure about junk cars and ways to get rid of them so my boss is now calling me the Educational Outreach Coordinator. ;) It was funny.
I think that's about it for work. In other news, we've been geocaching every weekend (weather permitting). We're finding it to be lots of fun. Lily's two teeth are now up quite a bit. I think they're bugging her but it's hard to tell because she has another cold which can't be fun for her or the fluid in her ears. She's big - wearing 12 month clothes now (she's only 8 months old). I even put her in a pair of 18 month jammies yesterday and they fit...quite nicely I might add. She's got such long legs that she has to get bigger pants so they don't look like capris. :D
Thanks Violet! Lily loves your clothes!
I think that's about it for now. I'm off to tend to my beautiful little cranky bug.
Oh dear, where to start. Work is going great. I am so happy and think that I have definitely found something that I could love and enjoy for quite a while. If we do move, I think I'll be looking into doing the same kind of work instead of teaching. We shall see.
So, Wednesday we drove out to a neighboring county that we contract with and I got to get some solid waste time in. The next day I drove out to the outskirts of the county and did more solid waste and the day after that I finished up the solid waste that I had to work on and began some more online training. That's work in a nutshell. Oh! I almost forgot! On Thursday evening I taught my first Food Worker Class. :D My reviews were all good too. :)
Okay, in other news, Lily had a pediatrician appointment on Wednesday night for her ears. They are still bugging her, but unfortunately there is no infection. I say unfortunately because if her ears were infected we could do something about it. Instead, there is no infection, but her ears are still filled with fluid. There's nothing we can do about it and not only does she feel like she constantly needs to pop her ears, but her hearing is most likely effected as well. Poor baby. Unless it gets drastically worse, we basically have to just live with it until her nine month checkup.
Her pediatrician appointment brought more bad news. We discovered that Lily has finally hit 22 lbs and 29 inches ... the exact weight and height limit for her carseat. WHAT?! Sigh. Thursday morning we got it in our brilliant heads to attempt to install her convertible toddler seat. Yeah, that didn't go well. We couldn't get it to work with our middle seat belt and eventually our current daycare's husband (a police officer) came to our place and helped us install it. Embarassing, but we got it in. We ended up being an hour late to work, which was awesome, but at least our baby was safe. To go along with that, today we went out and bought a sunshade for the back window since our bug no longer has a hood to keep the sun out of her eyes. We also got to take some pictures of her sitting in a highchair and shopping cart like a big girl. :) It was tons of fun.
I think the only other memorable things are that we went geocaching again today and found 3 caches! Go us! I even found one all on my own!
Bug is starting to whine and I'm feeling like this has been awfully rambly, so I'm going to go. If I think of more, I'll update!
P.S. Endangered orangutans are being slaughtered to make room for more area to grown and produce palm oil. Orangutans...those cute little red fuzzy faces. It's just wrong. http://www.orangutan.org.au/379.html
Image via WikipediaAfter getting a phone call this morning and two email messages today saying things to the like of, "Are you dead? You haven't blogged!" I figure that I should probably put something up.
So, let's see, what have I been doing since last Tuesday. Wednesday I read...all day long. It was good though because I learned quite a bit about food safety. Thursday I, yep, you got it, I read all day yet again. It's to be expected though because I'm new at this so I need to read to learn. I've also ordered a self study Environmental Health course so when that comes in I'll be reading that as well as a few online training courses. Yay for reading!
Friday my boss took pity on me and had me take out the county car (Impala) to drive around and check out some of the solid waste complaints that we've had. Since so many people have come and gone in my job, nobody did anything the same so there isn't any documentation as to whether or not these complaints ever got resolved. I currently have 8 that date back to 2005 that I'm following up on. On Friday I drove through Palouse and Pullman looking for the addresses and taking pictures. Let me just say that leaving packrats alone for 3 years does not solve their packrat issue. Each site was worse than their previous pictures. I sent out letters (my first official county correspondence with my name signed) to the 4 sites today and Thursday I get to go out again and drive to the far reaches of the county to check out the remaining sites that I have listed. Once I follow up with these, the next step will be to actually enforce the solid waste ordinance which states that we can charge $1000 per day until the waste is cleaned up. We'll see how that goes. If everything ever does get resolved, I get to just drive around on occasion and look for houses with excessive solid waste. Solid Waste Windshield Surveys they're called. I suppose because we take the pictures from the safety of a car. ;)
This weekend was interesting. Hubby and I ran around town doing some geocaching. We're finding it to be pretty flipping awesome. I'm excited. Once the weather gets nicer we're going to try our hand at the neighboring town and some surrounding areas. We also stopped by the mall to get me some new tennis shoes. My previous ones had cracked plastic on the heel that was cutting my foot.
Let's see, what else. Monday went by pretty quick. I updated my mapping software with the information for the solid waste sites and hubby made me a new nifty complaint form that I can just fill in on the computer and leave there for a computer record. I also got to track down a food complaint with a school. I had to talk to the school about the complaint and then contact their supplier for the food product to see where the food is going bad. I heard back from one person today and should hopefully hear back from the other tomorrow.
Today was fun. In the morning I dealt with a dog bite. I get to call the victim and the owner of the dog to find out what happened and to see if the dog is up to date on vaccines. We'll see how that plays out. I also got to watch a food safety class in the later afternoon. Thursday night I'll be teaching my first one. It should go just fine.
Other than that, I worked the rest of the day going through some old reports and complaints and getting my letters typed up and sent out. I'm proud of my little letters. All official and everything!
Tomorrow I'm off to a neighboring county that we contract with with my boss. It's the first time that I'm going to see some health inspections. The first school inspection I'll be doing will be on May 9th so stay tuned for that. I'll be watching one on the 8th and then it's all me on the 9th!
Okay, I think that's probably about it for now. I know there are no updated pictures. There in my car in the diaper bag.
Oh yeah, the other thing is that my daycare is out of town tomorrow and for the next two weeks so Lily will be going to a new daycare. The woman seems awfully sweet so I'm excited but still nervous because Lily isn't exactly an easy baby.
So today went by a lot quicker than yesterday it seemed. I didn't have a bunch of orientations to sit through. Instead, I spent my morning cruising through the county's website of Food Safety, the state Department of Health's site of Food Protection and the CDC's information of food protection. I learned a great deal...and then went off to grab some lunch and forget about it for an hour. :D
When I got back I got to take the food handler's test for the training that I had done online. I passed with flying colors luckily enough; I wonder what would have happened if I had failed? Oh dear. My boss just said that he would have had to fire me, but I doubt he was serious...right? ;)
I spent the rest of my day bugging my hubby to come fix my computer and attempting to make a dent in the inches of reading material I have to get through. That was about it for me day. Like I said, not terribly interesting, but fun none the less.
In other news, you just have to check out Office Warfare. Oh lord today's post just cracks me up. It has a program you can install on your enemy...I mean coworker's computer to make their mouse randomly click around the screen. I can only imagine the hilarity that would ensue from this. Go check out the article on Digg and hey, since you're there you might as well Digg it. :D I did because it really is THAT awesome.
My goodness this has been a busy last couple days. I am just now getting a chance to sit down and write something, but honestly, I'm so tired that I don't know how motivated I will be to write much.
Let's start with Sunday. That morning Mike and I headed out and got some much needed grooming done at Regis in the mall. I had grooming done - Mike just walked around the mall holding Lily. By the time I saw him again he was holding one quietly sleeping baby. What a cute pair they are. After the mall, we grabbed some lunch and then had to run on campus to work in the lab that I help out with. I thought we'd be there for an hour, but ended up being there for 3. Oh lord. By the time we got home, we were both tired, but unfortunately I still had to get dressed and ready to go to the ELTON JOHN CONCERT!
Yep, that's right! I got to go to the concert! Mike wouldn't go with me, but his boss's wife did and man did we have fun! The concert was great and our seats weren't horrible. I did take some less than allowed video on my camera, but I'm unsure whether I'll post that or not. We'll see. The pictures didn't turn out great because with the flash you couldn't see anything and then without the flash it was too blurry.
We got home around 10:30, just in time to get ready for bed and attempt to sleep. It didn't work so well because I was so nervous and freaked out about today. We did in fact get up in time, but like always that doesn't seem to matter because we still got out 5 or so minutes late. Before we left, I was running around like a chicken with my...well you know, trying to make sure I didn't get anything. As it turns out I forgot some bibs for Lily. Oh well. I'm sure we can get carrot off of her bib.
Work was good. We got there on time, which was fascinating. Rarely happens. I spent the first hour and a half setting up my phone and computer. The next 2 hours were spent in HR orientation, then lunch, then 2 hours doing the Public Health Department orientation and the last 3 hours were spent training through reading and setting up a new computer. Yep, two computers in one day. :D It was a long day, but I'm excited to go back so that has to say something. Tomorrow my boss says he's actually going to give me some real tasks to do. :D I will be spending many months still reading and learning, but anything I can actually do hands on will be just fine with me.
On another note - my desk is hideous. Very oddly set up and most of the paperwork on it is old old old. I need to figure out a way to organize things. I don't even have any drawer space to put things for me (snacks, meds, etc.) or even a spot in the drawer for any sort of organizer. That's going to be a task in itself.
Okay, I think that's about it for now. Lily's fussy fussy fussy! I'm not sure if it's because she's been gone all day or if it's just because it's night time. We'll see how the evenings go.
Image via Wikipedia So, I don't think I've mentioned it, but before I ever applied for this job I had applied to grad school. My thought process was that I needed a full time job and that if it wasn't in teaching I needed to then at least continue my education in teaching.
I decided to apply on January 11th, not realizing that the priority deadline was January 10th. I kicked myself but planned on applying before the last deadline on March 15th. True enough, after writing all the papers, getting all the forms done and getting my recommendations in, I turned in my paperwork on March 15th. Phew! The office said that I should hear back by the end of three weeks.
Three weeks came and went and I still hadn't heard anything. I logged on to see my application status and was quite surprised when I saw that my application status was "canceled by applicant." WHAT? Freaked out about the possibility of all the time and money getting wasted ($50) I called the grad office who confirmed that my application had been withdrawn. They forwarded me to the ed department who were, thankfully, surprised. Turns out, when you apply to grad school you have to choose a first and second choice for majors. Well, they knew that I didn't want the second choice and had only put something there because the application made me. When they said axed the second choice it ended up withdrawing the application from both choices! Oh noes! It turned out okay though because I was in fact recommended for admission and he had my departmental recommendation right there. I should get a letter by the end of the week. Phew!
So in 30 minutes I went from, "Aww, I must have been rejected," to "I canceled my application?" to "Yay, I got accepted!" Talk about toying with my emotions.
Let's see, what else is there. Lily started her last vegetable before starting fruits. She likes her sweet potato! She's eating a lot more at mealtimes now so the little jars that I thought would last a few days are only lasting a single feeding. Silly little piglet. The picture on the right is of her munching on a biter biscuit. She loves them, but Mike hates them because they melt all over the place.
I know there's more...ah yes. My husband works in IT and his office consists of himself and two other coworkers (one being his boss). One of the coworkers is the author of Office Warfare, the name explains it all. Anyway, I guess today the author got totally silly stringed. Oh, fun office games. :D
In a slightly less upbeat note, today is my last day at home with Lily before starting work. I'm excited yet nervous at the same time. I have a big fear that she's going to forget who I am or have more fun spending time with her daycare since she'll be there more than she'll be with me (during waking hours anyway). Man, how do mommies manage this?
I'm sure there's more, but at this time I can't think of what it would be. I'll leave you with a request to go check out the site of a great Romance Author, Jane Richardson, and enter her latest contest. Her books are charmingly sweet! Enter here.
Every week, or as often as I feel like, I'll choose some awesome blog and will let you, the general public, know about it. This week that blog is Office Warfare.
HILARIOUS! That about sums it up. No really, do you have an annoying coworker? One that you can never get to shut up? Perhaps it's just a coworker that likes to play pranks on you. This is the perfect way to get back at them. Office Warfare takes those spur of the moment office battles to a whole new level!
Coworker got you down? Try taking one of his commonly used desktop shortcut icons (say Word or Excel) and making it so that when clicked, instead of opening the appropriate program it instead locks his workstation or switches his mouse buttons! Now sit back and laugh your rear off while he (or she) tries to figure out what's going on. I love it!
Seriously, go check the site out. You don't have to be a computer guru to understand the majority of it and if you do need a little help, the author will help for sure.
Let the battles begin!!

Image from WikipediaMike's sweet, isn't he. :) I was feeling all grumpy when I woke up on Sunday because I was tired and had a huge headache. Being on my own all day the day before had been abnormally difficult and I was just pooped. I came out to the kitchen to get some Excedrin to find a cute bear, some flowers and a card (which happened to be a Happy Birthday card much to Mike's irritation). It was hard to be grumpy after that.
Eventually I got to feeling a little better and around noon we headed out to get some lunch. I really wanted to take Mike to The LocoGrind because I had been there the week before with Tomi. The food was DELICIOUS! Unfortunately they were closed on Sundays and Mondays so we turned around and had our normal weekend lunch at the mall. Hmmmm Qudoba. Tasty fast Mexican food. Mike got steak tacos and I had nachos. We walked around the mall for a bit before heading home. We were both exhausted.
After we got home, I changed and then came back out into the livingroom to find Mike laying half dead on the ground. Poor boy was so sleepy and because I'm such a nice wife I let him sleep. Hahahahahahaha! No, I didn't. I threw pocket packs of tissues at him! Lily was sitting in her carseat on the chair while my annoyingness turned into an all out war between the both of us. We were chucking packets trying to hit each other and she was just cracking up. That little girl has never laughed that hard or that long. It was sooooo funny!
In the middle of our battle, Kelly called so we headed over to spend some quality time with them and the twins. Oh, they are so flipping cute. We didn't stay long as Lily was getting fussy. We grabbed some dinner, and then came home to watch our recorded Eli Stone. Cute episode I thought.
What else is new and exciting? Nothing much I don't think. I'm getting excited to start work on Monday but nervous too. #1, I don't know where I'm going to pump and #2, I'll be leaving my baby M-F 7:30-5:30. Is she even going to know my anymore??
Sigh. Thoughts on that? How do you balance your home and work lives?
Image from WikipediaOh dear, what to write about today. You know, I had this whole list of things that I could write about and I thought, hey, I should write these down somewhere in case I forget what they were and true enough, I forgot. Well, I suppose we'll just go over the last few days.
So Monday. Monday was the day that I got the call about the job. That was awesome and awkward. At the time I was at the hospital holding one twin while my friend was feeding the other. I was in a hospital, holding a twin. No I'm not going to jump up and down acting all excited when you offer me the job, even though I really really wanted to! Sigh. The guy told me, "Well, I think I sound more excited than you do!" I then had to explain my situation and that I was really excited even if it didn't sound like it. There's nothing worse than getting the call that you've got the job you really wanted and somehow convincing the guy that you didn't really want it! What's wrong with me!
The rest of Monday went by pretty well. Had a celebratory lunch with my hubby and then headed home. Tuesday (yesterday) went by fairly quickly it seems. I woke up feeling like crud thanks in large part to my wonderful sinuses. Since we got up after Mike left, I got the pleasure of giving Lily her antibiotic by myself. Usually we both have to hold her arms, legs and head to get the dropper in her mouth. We give it to her in very small increments, which usually drags the whole process out, but she still ends up spitting most of it out. I know it sounds cruel to pin down your baby to give her meds, but we've tried other methods. We got a medinurser, which was a no-go. We even tried hiding it in her bottle. That was a bad idea because it took us 3 hours to get her to trust the bottle again! So we pin her down and use the dumb Walmart dropper that the pharmacy gives us. I hate that thing because it leaks and doesn't hold the medicine all that great.
Anyway. Mike had mentioned yesterday morning that we should come down and meet him for lunch so we did. We got in to town only to find out that he didn't think we were coming and so had already eaten lunch! Bah. Oh well. He said that he'd just come with me so we sat around his office for an hour, waiting for the lunch rush to die down, and then headed to Subway for some $5.00 footlong fun.
After lunch, we came home, hung out for a while, took a nap at 5:30 (Lily and I) and then when Mike got home, he kindly took us to ReadyCare. My head was now killing me due to my sinuses. When we got there, the receptionist said that we'd be waiting almost an hour which was no big deal, however, there were two families with very sick screaming kids. One had to be just over a year and the other was maybe 2. The family with the two-year-old was saying that his fever has been 104 for a few days. I felt really bad for them and was perplexed when the nurse kept coming out to take grown men and women that looked just fine. They looked so good that they could probably have run a marathon while these kids were just falling apart. I was sure that they should take the sick kids first.
Anyway, the woman with the really sick kid looked at the nurse when she came out for another healthy looking full grown man and the nurse said to her, "I'm sorry. One of the doctors is just taking patients that he knows." Ummmmmmmm, what? Nobody seemed to bothered by this, but man, if it was me and my sick kid, I'd be really ticked, especially if I had been there longer like I'm guessing these people were. Why on Earth is it okay for him to only take patients that he already knows and leave the sick kids for last? I don't get it. How terrible. Maybe somebody can explain the reasoning behind this for me? Anyone?
So, that part aside, my appointment went fairly well once I got in there. Pulse was fairly high (92) but my blood pressure was good. Those things always worry me for some reason so I like to hear that they're okay. When the doc came in, he asked about my symptoms and decided just to prescribe me antibiotics for a sinus infection. I was hoping he'd be able to see my sinuses or something because I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't need them, but they were technically closed by then and I'm sure he was anxious to get home. Sigh. Well, I'll try the augmentin and see if I keep getting headaches. I get them probably twice a week so I should be able to tell if it has worked. The doc also mentioned while I was there that if I keep getting headaches I might want to have a CT scan done to check for polyps, etc. He said these can cause chronic headaches.
Okay, Lily's waking up so I'm going to head off. The only other news I have is that Mike left his sun glasses at the doc's office and is strangely really upset about that. I'll have to run there after my LLL meeting and before heading to Walmart for my prescription to see if I can find them.
Have a great day and don't let the browser hit you on your way out! :D
Yessir, you read right! I have a new job! After a year and some of subbing I finally decided that since I'm going to be here for a while I might as well start looking for a job. I saw one advertised with the county and although I wasn't optimistic about it, I applied. A few weeks later I got an interview and then 5 days later I got an offer for the job! Woot! I'll be working the same hours as Mike and working right next door!
How awesome is that? I'll also be making more than Mike, but we don't need to emphasize that now do we. ;)
Oh this is so great. We'll now be able to find a decent place to live (no more college apartments) and even more importantly, we'll be able to get a car. It gets so hot here in the summer and my car is dark blue with no air conditioning. I was not looking forward to putting my baby in that hot car this summer, but now it looks like I might not have to.
So, basically I'll be working as an Environmental Health Technician. The first few months will be a lot of learning and once I get into it I'll let you all know what exactly I'll be doing. :D
Yay I'm excited.
**While I was typing this I received a phone call from a friend. This is the friend that I talk about a few posts back in "Faking Pregnancy." Her daughter was excited to have two new siblings (twin sisters) when her father's girlfriend's pregnancy ended. We were sure that the woman was lying about the pregnancy but without my friend knowing absolutely for sure, they told the girl that her sisters were up in heaven now. Well, apparently the sister of the father found the original ultrasound pictures online that the girl copied "hers" from. I'm beyond saddened and my friend is sad as well. What kind of sick person does this and leads a poor little 4 year old girl on like that?**
I'm not sure anyone actually reads this, but if they do they'll notice that it's been a while since we have updated.
Going on in the lives of Cinnamon and Mike:
Cinnamon is still applying for jobs and still getting rejected. Subbing was supposed to be a temporary thing and it is seriously wearing on her. She really wants a full time every day sort of job. That doesn't mean she wants to leave her Lily girl, but she doesn't have the motivation to work after not working for days or weeks on end.
Mike tested for the Pierce County Police Department on February 23rd. We're still waiting to hear back on the test results. In the meantime he is continuing to work for the county and loves it.
Now on to Lily. Let's see, the last post here was in January. I'd say around that time Lily was able to roll from her belly to her back. She still hated tummy time. Now Lily loves tummy time because she can roll to her back and then back onto her tummy again! Yep, she can roll both ways! We're so proud of her. She started rolling from her back to her tummy around mid February. We now play baby treadmill where Lily will roll like mad and then we will pick her up, replace her at her starting spot and she'll do it all over again. She loves it. Her mobility doesn't end at rolling, she can also scoot ... backwards!!! Silly girl. Now Cinnamon spends her days watching like a hawk as Lily either tries to get stuck under things by rolling under them or scooting under them. Crazy girl.
In other news, February 17th-24th brought about a quite fun time for both Lily and Cinnamon. During that week, we (without Dad who was busy bringing home the bacon unfortunately) visited Grandma over in Alabama! We spent our days with Lily in a backpack walking along the beach, collecting seashells. We even went searching for alligators and saw a couple on our last day on the gorgeous coast. The week was great, seeing Grandma was great and I know everyone was sad when it was over. While there, Lily discovered that she liked to ride her pony (Grandma's knee) but she just hasn't had the same affinity for anyone else's knee since we've been home. ;D
Well, I suppose that's about it for the updates for now. Lily is 28.5 inches long, 20lbs 7oz in weight and has a 48.5 cm head. She is in the 100th percentile for all three - height, weight and head circumference.
Okay, I'm off! Hasta, bye from Mike and naah naah naaaaaah from Lily.
